The Roman god of Cupid, identified with the Greek Eros, was the god of love.
Cupid was the son of Venus and Vulcan, and is normally represented as a little boy with wings, holding bow and arrows. He is often depicted on sarcophagi as a symbol of life after death.
Cupid survives in Christian iconography as the winged cherubs.
