About

This site is based on the photographic collection of René Seindal.

The site is rather old, and hasn’t been updated for a long time, but thanks to the coronavirus lockdown in early 2020 I’ve found the time to convert it from the old custom built system to WordPress. The site should now also work reasonably on mobile.

Most texts are written by René Seindal. René has a M.A. in History and Italian and a B.Sc. in Computer Science, both from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

It is possible to comment on almost all pages on this site. Feel free to send in comments, corrections, praise or criticism. Praise is much preferred, though ☺

The site was mostly a hobby project. It is not an academic endeavour, but rather a combination of holiday photography, immense curiosity and a strong desire to share the knowledge gained with other curious souls.

    Hi, Rene,
How fine that you have learned to maneuver a gondola! Ever do doubles?
In other news, I see that your Forma Urbis Romae files need updating, alas!
I used to have the full set of the FUR on slides, but darned if I can find them after one too many moves, and I am desperate to see details of the Ara Maxima Herculis, at the foot of the Circus Maximus.
I am working on the third of three historical novels set in the time of Commodus, and need to know what the diaconia Herculis may have looked like, back in the day.
Any plans to refresh Plate XXVIII?
    All the best,
    Kate

Your article has been very interesting, and I am citing you in my thesis. I wanted to get permission from you to use a couple of your images for my thesis as well. If you could email your response to my email, I would greatly appreciate it.
