The Botanic Garden is located in the in the centre of Copenhagen, close to the National Museum of Art, Rosenborg and Nørreport.

The visitor can enjoy 25,000 living plants of 13,000 different species in the garden, that occupies about 11 ha on land once occupied by the old fortifications of the city.

There has been a botanic garden in Copenhagen since 1600. The current garden is the fourth, opened to the public in 1874.

The huge greenhouses were build in the period 1872-4 by the J. C. Jacobsen, the founder of the Carlsberg Breweries.

The Botanic Garden is a part of the University of Copenhagen.
