Saturn is one of the oldest deities in the Roman pantheon, and several legends connects him with the founding of Rome, and credits him with learning the Romans agriculture.

The Temple of Saturn in the Forum Romanum is one of the oldest temples in Rome.

He was celebrated in the Saturnalia at the winter solstice. Originally on December 17, it was later extended to between three and seven days.
