Mercurius, or Mercury, was the Roman parallel to the Greek Hermes. He was the messenger of the gods and the god of trade, grain in particular, commercial success and abundance.
He is normally depicted with a staff with two intertwined snakes, and wearing a winged hat and winged shoes.
